* There is a subtle indication in this last Ayat to the upcoming 5 Surahs in sequence. If we look at this Ayah, Allah says,
"And say, "Praise to Allah, - Surah al-Kahf begins with Praise [Surah 18]
who has not taken a son - Surah Maryam [Surah 19] deals with birth of Jesus
and has had no partner in [His] dominion - Surah Taha [20] deals with Pharoah who claimed Divinity and Rulership
and has no [need of a] protector out of weakness; Surah al-Anbiyah [21] deals with the
and glorify Him with [great] glorification." Surah al-Hajj [22] - with the glorification of Takbir respresenting the Hajj
Explanatory Note
The sūrah closes in the same way as it opened, praising God and asserting His oneness, and reiterating the facts that He has neither son nor partner and is in need of no help or support from anyone. This is indeed the pivot round which the sūrah turns:
“And say: All praise is due to God who has never begotten a son; who has no partner in His dominion; who needs none to support Him against any difficulty.’ And extol His greatness.” (Verse 111)
3. Surah Overview
The very first verse indicates that this Surah was revealed on the occasion of the ascension (Mi’raj). According to the narrations (hadith) on the life of the Prophet, this event happened one year before migration (Hijrah). Thus this Surah was revealed in the last stage of Prophethood in Makkah.
The Prophet had been propagating Monotheism (Tawhid) for twelve years now. In spite of all the opposition, Islam had spread to every corner of Arabia and there was hardly a clan which had not been influenced by the invitation. In Makkah itself, the true Believers had formed themselves into a small community. A large number of the people from the Aws and Khazraj tribes (two influential clans of Madinah) had also now accepted Islam. Thus the time had come for the Muslims to emigrate from Makkah to Madinah, at behest of the Aws and Khazraj to establish an Islamic state.
